Save Our Seas
Offshore drilling releases excess nutrients into the water, creating an environment where algae, particularly Pseudo-nitzschia, thrive. This algae produces domoic acid, which is ingested by small marine organisms and subsequently moves up the food chain. As larger marine animals consume these organisms, they accumulate higher levels of domoic acid, which causes neurological problems in marine mammals and often leads to death.
